• I love this plug-in — I’m using two instances on my test site: on the homepage at

    https://test.clubbo.com/wp/

…and on interior pages, such as this one:

    https://test.clubbo.com/wp/1969-the-fold/the-fold-clubbos-real-cult-band/

The only problem: In Safari, the slideshow often doesn’t start until you reload the page — the “image loading” wheel just spins indefinitely otherwise. In Firefox, everything works perfectly. I haven’t tried it yet in IE — I’m afraid! ??

Is there any way to correct this Safari behavior?

Also: I get this error message in the FPSS Option Page:

Warning: file_get_contents() [function.file-get-contents]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /hsphere/local/home/clubbo/test.clubbo.com/wp/wp-content/plugins/frontpage-slideshow/frontpage-slideshow.php on line 685

I have no idea what it means, or whether it’s related to the above problem.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

About the warning: you do not have to care about that ?? its only a warning (not an error) caused by some work on my server that make the plugin unable to retrieve its unique ID.

About the safari behavior : do you noticed some javascript error ? Quirk mode ?

I’m not sure what you mean about “quirk mode.” There is certainly no error message in Safari. The image in the slideshow panel simply doesn’t appear until I press Cmd+r for refresh. Once I do, the plug-in works perfectly. But this incorrect behavior is very consistent. Thanks!

The “quirk mode” is a way for browsers to render a page that is not entirely standard or that mixes standards ans non standard markup. Its automatic, different for every browser, and can really affect the way the DOM and events are seen from javascript side…

I Will improve the way the slider starts soon (I do not have time by now) wait and see is the best I can say.

Thanks for the update, Jeff. No, there is nothing non-standard about the way I am running Safari, and there are no extra plug-ins. Would you be so kind as to inform me when an updated version is released?

    Thanks!

    Joe

I also have problems with the slideshow. It will not start when I go from one page to the front-page. But if I load the front-page with reload everything works ok.

I don’t see any Javascript errors, the strange thing in fact is that when I turn on firebug and make the same steps it always work.
