• When I login as a subscriber the hide menu button shows, but when I click it,the show menu button does appear so it gets stuck in hide mode and then the icons and the flyout menus don’t line up.

Is this likely a plugin conflict? For me I would rather just disble hide menu feature. Another option in the settings? Thanks!

Oh Brian, I thought that you’d solved the riddle about what is causing the ‘hide/show menu’ button to disappear. Unfortunately I’ve just tested all five default roles on my dev install and they all behave as expected, I can’t get the button to disappear.

This bug is really starting to annoy me, or more to the point the fact that I can’t reproduce it so I can fix it, is starting to annoy me.

Because I still can’t reproduce it (across half a dozen completely separate installs) I’m leaning towards some sort of conflict – but that said I’ve had users report that it occurs even with no other plugins active.

If there are any details about other plugins that you might have active when you see the bug that would be much appreciated. In particular any plugins that add/change admin menu items or other parts of the admin UI.

    thanks.

I am using firefox 3.6.6 with firebug add-on on Windows 7. I may try disabling firebug. Advanced Excerpt, Akismet, Contact Form 7, Google XML Sitemaps, List category posts, Simple Facebook Connect – Base, Register, Login, Connect, SimplePie Core, Simple Tags, Simply Show IDs, Viper’s Video Quicktags, WordPress Importer, Zemanta.

I had hide wp dashboard installed but I deactivated to see if that was the problem.

I will go through and deactive one by one and see if I can find a conflict.

I notice that contact 7 is the only plugin that adds an admin panel, so I will start there.

Would it be possible to get a file with hide menu disabled?

Thanks for all your hard work! The theme is really top notch!

I have a fresh WP install, with no other plugins, that behaves the same way for me on the browsers I actually use. That is, the hide menu works but the show menu does NOT appear and the special “?unfoldmenu” url must be visited to get it back.

    Quick test results…
IE 8 (via VirtualBox) – hide menu works, show menu DOES appear
Win Firefox 3.6.6 (via VirtualBox) – problem as described
Mac Safari 5 – problem as described
Mac FireFox 3.6.6 – problem as described
Mac Chrome 5.0.375.99 – problem as described

Seems to be a browser issue, not a script issue. Basically, it only works in IE8. Hope this helps reach a solution and saves some frustration.

Thanks for the great work on this plugin BTW!

    GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY!

I’ve finally managed to reproduce the bug. It only took about a dozen different installs of WordPress before I got one to ‘break’.

Turns out the issue doesn’t appear to be with the ‘hide menu’ button itself, but rather that some of the widths of the menu items above it (in my case the comments menu) weren’t being set correctly in the fluency css (my bad, the css was a little too specific) and as a result were ending up on top of the show/hide button.

I’ll finish up some of the other bug fixes tonight when I get home from work and push out an update which will (hopefully) fix this issue for everyone. Update will also include Spanish, Turkish, Italian and Chinese translations.
