• This is a HORRIBLE plug-in. It has conflicts with SEVERAL other plug-ins, and in EVERY theme I’ve tried it with (6 different themes!) it does not show the images in IE7!

    Fair warning!

  • Works ok, have no problem at all.

Internet Explorer 8 gives this error when Featured Content Gallery is enabled:

Message: Object doesn’t support this property or method
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
    Code: 0

@neneunmsm “I have problem in google Chrome”

I too have occasionally had an issue with this plugin in Chrome, but you know what? I also had a problem browsing my Gmail in Chrome! That being said, I think Google has a ways to go to knock out some bugs in Chrome. Don’t judge this plugin on Chrome alone. I’ve used it for about a year now, and I think it’s great. Well done!

its too good for me i had tried with 2 themes and its working good

Seriously, save yourself time and headaches if FCG isn’t working in your Revolution/Studiopress themes by trying this one instead. Put the code it gives you in your home.php file, configure it under settings, do exactly what the install directions tell you to do and voila, it works with wp 2.8+ just fine. I use the Church and the Metro themes and when I upgraded to 2.8, FCG stopped working, disabled all plugins and still nada. So despite what anyone else thinks about anyone else grumbling, if you need one that WORKS give this one a try:)

    Dynamic Content Gallery

CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE! Wow, i’ve tried everything that i know how to do to get this plug-in to work…and now i’m worked up! Support forums fail, It works, it doesn’t, it works again, then it poops out. I’m out, never using this plug in again. What’s the use when there are so many restrictions and soooooo many weird things that make it stop working. Over it!

I’m having problems with the combination of Studiopress Church 40, WordPress 2.8.6 and this pluggin, only for viewing in Chrome and Safari.

I know another site using Church 30, WordPress 2.8.4 and it views properly in both browsers (Chroms and Safari).

    Any suggestions?

Just with a quick perusal of this plugin’s code, I can see the major problem: the global functions are not given a proper namespace prefix. Functions such as get_a_post(), gallery_styles() and startGallery(), and global variables such as $options_page are just asking to clash with every other gallery plugin out there.

The plugin also will not work if you have moved or renamed your content or admin directories, since there are a lot of hard-coded paths in the code.

The JS scripts could also do with loading through the appropriate APIs, which then allow overrides etc. especially if the site already has a mootools library loaded through the theme or another module.

Having said that, the code in this module is very short and simple, so it should be pretty easy to tidy up and fix these things.

I have to agree with everyone… FCG is really bad news! doesn’t work with much and has ruined my simple press forum… when I went to the iePlexus forum for support I was quickly replied to but was told it wasn’t their plugin creating the issues but rather the simple press forum. iePlexus needs to take a look at dynamic content gallery to see how it’s should be done.

I’ve got to agree that FCG is so troublesome that it is not worth the effort. I have tried to get it working on two different sites and think that it would be much easier, not to mention far more versatile to use the fantastic SlideShowPro Director for home page slideshows. SSPDirector is not a plugin, it is a separate piece of software. I had hoped for a simple plugin that my client could handle on his own. FCG is not that plugin.

My most recent problem: The slideshow works for 3 out 4 images. I have checked the proper usage of articleimg, every URL, and the pages that I listed in the FCG options. I can see that the page is discovered because its title appears, but the image does not show, no matter how many ways I tried this (deactivating other plugins, deleting the page/articleimg from where I want FCG to get the image and starting from scratch, checking permissions, re-uploading the image, emptying the cache.

As for doing more with it, I cannot find any documentation on how many images I can use, or whether FCG cares if the page ID is for a main page or a subpage.

I am done with this plugin. For what it actually does, it is not worth the hassle. Even if I got it working, what happens if my client installs a plugin on his own and breaks it. Now I need to figure out how to untie this plugin from my StudioPress theme. The StudioPress themes I use seem to require it. Ick.

Featured Content Gallery ist one of the best plugins for wordpress. it’s easy to configure and use.

I’ve tried it with several wordpress themes and i haven’t had any problems at all.

I agree with this topic. FCG maybe not so bad, but has a lot of compatibility issues. So other developers have to fix somehow consequences of this plugin to get it work with our plugins. It’s awful.

Small remark to creator(s): please switch lines

    header(“Content-type: text/css”);
    include(“../../../../wp-load.php”);

in the file jd.gallery.css.php – sometimes (or every time?) it leads to text/html Content-Type for CSS file. Switched order (header the second) serves the file normally.

Basically FCG is badly coded and the developers would rather bury their heads in the sand and deny the issues. Wouldn’t take them much to fix most of the problems, but there hasn’t been an update to it for over a year.

It’s free so can’t complain about it, but the developers attitude is what annoys me. If it doesn’t work, just admit there are limitations, don’t blame every other plugin developer when it’s YOUR plugin that has the bugs!

don’t blame every other plugin developer when it’s YOUR plugin that has the bugs!

we never blame anyone..we say not compatible

we never blame anyone..we say not compatible

Yeah, but the implication is that the other plugin is the one with the problem. However, that’s simply not true most of the time. It’s because you haven’t coded FCG properly!

Why not just put in the extra bit of effort that it would take to fix the problems?

I know that Brian Gardner used to use FCG, but as far as I can see he’s ditched you now in favour of another plugin. Simply because you don’t bother to support it or update it.

The new Dynamic Content Gallery plugin doesn’t suffer with anywhere near the number of incompatibilities FCG does, because more care was taken coding it!

Sorry to sound harsh, but I’m just telling it the way it is.
