[Plugin: Fast Secure Contact Form] can I block specific spam?
-
I use Akismet, and it’s great for finding spam in comments. But that, combined with the Captcha and whatever else you have in this form don’t seem to work against SEO spam.
I keep getting these “information emails” about how I could greatly improve my seo. (I actually responded to one, saying something to the effect of “sounds great, send me more info”, but never heard back, which makes me wonder why they spam me in the first place!)
I have the forms set to re-enter email address, as well as a number of subject lines people can choose from. I guess that makes no difference.
They always come from a different email address, but the addresses all have two things in common: they are from gmail and they have at least one period in them.
Now, I can’t block gmail – that’s counter-productive. But I wonder if I can block email addresses with periods in them? I’ve read a few times that by adding a + to your gmail username, you can write anything you want after it and thereby follow who is giving out your email address, but every time I try that, the form tells me it’s an invalid address. I don’t know if your form does that, but I would like to be able to prevent the periods in email addresses. I have never seen any addresses with a period, aside from gmail ones, and you can use your gmail username without periods anyway, so it seems like this would be a good way to stop this type of spam.
If there’s a way to do it, I can’t find it in the options. If not, please consider adding such an option.
Thanks!
