    what’s the _wp_page_template?

It is the way to see a page, according to the possibilities of the theme used. For example: One column, two column, three comuns, sidebar left and right…

The problem is that when looking 1 event on Events Page, this, always take the default theme. You can not choose.

ah i see. you mean choosing a page template, right? will look into this, but currently you can copy the template file you want in your theme and rename it single-event.php, should use that template instead.

Unfortunately this doesn’t work ?? I have copied the template and renamed it but the the single event takes the default theme

I have some doubts. Where to copy the file and paste it where?

we might be confusing things here, I assume you mean a normal wordpress page template here.

to do that, copy a file from your theme, e.g. single.php, or the template you want used and rename the copy to single-event.php you can then choose different layouts, headers footers, sidebars etc..

I think the problem is that single events aren’t pages, they are posts (in events manager). There is a event-single.php in the template folder of the plugin (version 5.0.3) – can i change this one?

The single events, may be pages or post. You Can see it on settings>Pages>Event Manager Options> Event Pages.

But If I copy a file from my theme, or the template I want used and rename the copy to single-event.php unfortunately this doesn’t work.

The single event takes the default theme.

all this does is take the page.php template in your theme, if it doesn’t exist, it’ll try index.php

otherwise, your other option is to create a single-event.php file in your theme (e.g. copy from page.php or another template) for a single event page and modify as needed.
