Plugin Errors on IIS based server

    Hi Support,

    I have a couple of issues with the latest plugin update, I have updated this plugin on all of the sites I currently manage and for the most part it has gone without issue, however I have 2 sites that I have had to roll back the plugin version to 3.7.3 in order to get it to work correctly and its a bit strange but the issue was different on both sites even though they both sit on the same server.

    Wordpress Version : latest 5.1.1
    Server: Windows IIS 7
    Issue 1: The original site after update was carried out caused multiple php cgi scripts to spawn which subsequently slowed the site/server down to a very slow crawl, once I figured out the problem and reverted the plugin back the CGI scripts stopped spawning and the server returned to normal, I did try several times updating the plugin again and then reverting and it yielded exactly the same results.

    Issue 2: on another site which also sites on the same server, the CGI scripts didn’t appear to spawn however after the update the redirects just didn’t work, but after reverting the plugin back they worked fine, the DB update in both cases appears to have gone fine and without issues.

    Are you aware of any known issues with Windows/IIS server set ups and the plugin.

    I am not aware of any issues with IIS. I don’t have access to IIS to actually test the plugin, but all it does is use the standard WordPress wp_redirect to perform redirects, so there’s nothing special going on. It doesn’t have the ability to spawn CGI scripts, although I don’t know if this is something that happens on IIS anyway.

    Do you have any caching system setup?

    Hi John,

    I do have a caching plugin installed on the site, but to be honest most of the functionality is turned off as the settings for IIS are all manual anyway and have to be performed on the server unlike if it’s running on a linux server.

    It is weird however it is definitely only when I update the redirection plugin on the Windows server that it grinds everything to a halt, could it be how the sites are set up on this particular server, basically we have the main client site (Drupal) and then inside this main sites folder in 2 sub folders I have 2 WordPress sites set up.

    Hi John,

    I’ve just tried to update the plugin to the latest version on the site running on the IIS server again and it is still grinding the whole server to a halt, any idea what could be causing this, I’m conscious that the longer this is left the more out of date the plugin becomes and more potential for a security issue to arise.

    I have no idea what could be causing it, and I don’t have access to IIS to test. There have been no reports from other IIS users either.

    If you are able to provide access to a server where I can investigate then I will take a look.
