[Plugin: Edit Flow] v0.8 idea: Filter by User Group

  • Could User Groups be extended beyond their Editorial Comments/Notifications origins to become part of the filters on the Calendar and Story Budget? They could be added to the current User filter list, or made into their own filter. Either way, it would help keep track of content by group. (We have several teams of writers, and the editors for those groups would like to be able to track the progress of their teams’ work at a glance, instead of having to display a new screen for each writer.)

    Interesting idea! One limitation is that a “copy editor” user group would basically always show no stories, but I guess “news writers” vs. “arts writers” might be a userful filter. Is that what you were thinking?

    Yes, that’s very much what we have in mind. We just wouldn’t choose one of those irrelevant user groups when applying a display filter.

    Related to this, I’d love to see more flexibility in which filters are included at the top of the story budget / calendar. This would include the ability to hide specific ones or include your own.

    Was definitely planning on adding a do_action if we don’t have one already for others to add their own filters. Not sure how worthwhile hiding filters would be, but if the UX were simple enough perhaps it’s useful.

    Having only used both features with a handful of posts rather than the dozens or hundreds that a standard newsroom might have, I’m not sure what the real-world user stories are that we should continue to try to enable.
