Yep, this was an intentional change in the most recent release

    Hello,

While I appreciate that this change may well suit the new functionality, it doesn’t suit our system or contributors at all.

Is there a hook/filter that we can add that will return the “submit for review” button back to its original state?

    Thanks

We decided not to offer backwards compatibility, as we think this is an improvement over core UI. You’re welcome to restore the “Submit for Review” button on your own though — it shouldn’t be too difficult.

An astronaut would tell you it isn’t difficult to land a spacecraft.

If anyone can offer a solution it would be much appreciated. The best I’ve achieved thus far is having the plugin deactivate due to my dodgy coding attempt.

I’m sure I won’t be the only person looking for this functionality to return ??

Ditto for me – bad, bad, bad decision to remove the button IMHO, especially without an option to put it back.

Any pointer on putting the button back would be VERY much appreciated as the plugin is completely useless without it. Contributors who are new WP users simply don’t know about changing post status manually (and it’s a lot of extra clicks, too – 5 instead of 1).

Doubly confusing because it’s still there on the Quick Press widget in the dashboard.

No plans to put it back. If you deactivate custom post statuses for the post type, it will be restored.

Alternatively, you’re welcome to add your own button that allows the user to change the post to the next status.

Ah, well. I’ll find another plugin. ??

Anyone been able to discover a work around for this? The best I’ve been able to do is change the “edit” text to say something more useful.

Normal users simply don’t need to be able to choose between multiple statuses. All they need to do is move from being a draft to pending review. The original button did this perfectly. I love the edit flow plugin from an administration point of view, to handle article pitches and assignments, and as an admin being able to move stuff between these statuses is great, but for normal users the original button is much clearer and results in no confusion.
