[Plugin: Edit Flow] Custom statuses and email notifications
-
Hi there,
I’m using Edit Flow to manage the editorial workflow for our company’s blogs. We actively use the custom statuses to denote the status of the post (eg. Assigned, Draft, Needs a copy editor).I would love to be able to assign a specific User Group (copy editors) to automatically get an email notification when the post status is specifically changed to “Needs a copy editor.”
I’m aware that this feature currently isn’t supported, so my workaround is to have writers check off the Copy Editor user group in the “Notification Subscriptions” box once they are finished and save the status as “Needs a copy editor.” My hope is that the Copy Editor group then automatically gets the email telling them the status has changed from “Draft” to “Needs a Copy Editor.”
The workflow would be:
1) Save the post as a draft; write the post as needed.
2) check off “Copy Editors” in the Notification Subscriptions
3) Save the post status as “Needs Copy Editor”Ideally, I want the writer to be able to save the draft as “Needs Copy Editor” and notify the Copy Editor user group in the same go. However, I’m noticing that these changes aren’t happening in real time, and that the Copy Editor user group does not always receive the email afterward. The Copy Editor WILL receive the emails if I have their subscription checked off and I make changes later on, but I’m not sure how long it takes for the system to recognize that they are checked off.
Is there a certain order I need to be working in to ensure that what I am doing will work? Or is there another workaround that works better?
