    Hi there,
I’m using Edit Flow to manage the editorial workflow for our company’s blogs. We actively use the custom statuses to denote the status of the post (eg. Assigned, Draft, Needs a copy editor).

I would love to be able to assign a specific User Group (copy editors) to automatically get an email notification when the post status is specifically changed to “Needs a copy editor.”

I’m aware that this feature currently isn’t supported, so my workaround is to have writers check off the Copy Editor user group in the “Notification Subscriptions” box once they are finished and save the status as “Needs a copy editor.” My hope is that the Copy Editor group then automatically gets the email telling them the status has changed from “Draft” to “Needs a Copy Editor.”

    The workflow would be:
    1) Save the post as a draft; write the post as needed.
    2) check off “Copy Editors” in the Notification Subscriptions
    3) Save the post status as “Needs Copy Editor”

Ideally, I want the writer to be able to save the draft as “Needs Copy Editor” and notify the Copy Editor user group in the same go. However, I’m noticing that these changes aren’t happening in real time, and that the Copy Editor user group does not always receive the email afterward. The Copy Editor WILL receive the emails if I have their subscription checked off and I make changes later on, but I’m not sure how long it takes for the system to recognize that they are checked off.

Is there a certain order I need to be working in to ensure that what I am doing will work? Or is there another workaround that works better?

    Hey,
Email notifications are somewhat wonky in v0.6.2. v0.6.3 will be out shortly, and we should see if the problem persists after the release.

    Cheers,

Email notifications should be working reliably again with v0.6.3, released just a moment ago. Please upgrade and let us know!

    Thanks,

    Daniel

I just tried changing the status of a post AND selecting the usergroup to notify at the same time and no email notification was sent. Using 0.6.3.

@mmkurko Thanks for this reporting that. It’s a known issue and something we’ll try to fix in the next release.

I think the ability to assign a specific User Group to automatically get an email notification when the post status is changed to a specific status would be invaluable.

Here’s how it seems to work now:

    1. Select User Group under Notification Subscriptions (i.e “SEO” for “Needs SEO”).
    2. Save draft.
    3. Change status and save draft AGAIN.
    4. The User Group selected gets an email showing post status change.

Too many steps, and easy to miss one.

This is a feature we’re actively considering. We’ll likely tie a user group to a certain status (or statuses). If you have more ideas about how the assignment of statuses to usergroups (or vice versa) should work, let us know! Thanks, Michael.

That feature would be a HUGE help for us, to say the least. One example of an assignment that would be helpful to us: We use statuses to notify copy editors when a blog post is ready to be copy edited. It would be great if a status set to “Needs Copy Editor” automatically notified those in the Copy Editor user group. And then the status “Ready to Publish” automatically notified those in the Editors user group.

    Thanks!

Sweet, that’s really similar to another use case we’ve heard. We’ll see what we can do ??

Hi! Recently set up Edit flow on our site — can’t seem to email notifications to function, despite the fact that they’re checked as enabled on the dashboard. Any guidance on how to turn them “on”? Thanks…

What host is your site running on? Is phpmail set up properly?

    Hey folks,

Edit Flow v0.7 is getting close to release and we’d love your help in getting it there. We’ve included this ability to auto-subscribe user groups to posts. If you can help, please shoot us an email at [email protected] and we’ll give you direction on what to do.

    Cheers,

    Daniel
