[Plugin: Duplicator] Using Duplicate for devleopment site – keep customer data on live site

    Hey everybody!

    Idea

    I want to have a live version on my main domain – this will be the actual shop where users can purchase things. Then, on a subdomain (or any other domain), I want to use a duplicate version of this live shop, to then develop, make changes etc. (so I do not have to do these changes on my live version before they are ready and I have tested them). So what I need, is a way to import the changes I have made on my development version, to my live site (without losing customer data etc on my live version – in case users bought things while I was making changes on my development site).

    Can Duplicator do this? I know I can duplicate sites entirely…including customer data…but as said, I want to duplicate the entire development site EXCEPT the client data etc.

    Regardless, it’s a great plugin and I hope it can also do this ??

  • Hey nyhotdogman,

    Doing a SQL compare would be a pretty involved process. However you could probably craft up a few SQL statements to do what you need on a regular basis.

    Hey Mark,

    yep – exactly what I was looking for. So unfortunately no easy “1 click update” solution from development to production. But I think I can live with it ??
