• If you download the file when logged in as administrator (or any other user with ‘upload_files’ capability, the downloads are not count. Also, the disk folder which holds the files and the ‘logical’ name to download them, cannot be the same. (I think your case is this as the link points directly to the disk file).

I will start rewriting this plugin in next weeks. It was one of the firsts thinks I wrote for WordPress and its maintenance has been abandoned for a while. Looking at it now, I don’t like how it does and manages all things. This plugin is needed for better settings, some checks, and a easiest way to manage the whole thing.

Hope I will be able to rewrite it, and provide a 2.0 version as soon as I want to.

Thanks.
What do you mean by “the link points directly to the disk file”. Where should it point to?

There is a setting for this. If you didn’t change it, the file is in the URL https://yoursite.com/download/<filename>.

Txanny…could you clarify?

I think I’ve set the plugin up correctly in that when I view the stats, it shows all of the files in the folder I’m trying to track. However, the download numbers never go above zero.

I’m assuming my issue is in the “URL for file download:” field. I left the default (download) for a while, and that didn’t work. Then I changed it to the same folder name that my media files are in. Still nothing.

What do you think?

Thanks!

Jeremy

You have to use the links with the URL for file download.

Imagine your files are on /files
And you use the default for download URL.

Then, the links to download are: https://example.com/download/yourfile.ext

If you’re logged in as admin, your downloads are not counted.

ahh…that makes sense. I’m assuming there are no issues using these links with PodPress?

It should not. When I wrote this plugin, it was just for my own use with PodPress ?? But it was long time ago and I did not check again with PodPress.

By the way, this plugin is being rewritten as it needs to finish some features and the current design does not allow me to do it as I want.

Since you’re rewriting, it will be nice if it can have some file protection or allow to create file folder outside of www.

You’re right. I’m trying it. But I’m having some trouble as it works except when used for podcasting. For some reason iTunes and some other software don’t get the files. I think is something with a wrong MIME type sent.
