• Hi,

We’re trying to find a gallery to replace the Carousel module of Jetpack after deleting it. Ideally we’d like an image plugin that uses the native WordPress gallery like Carousel did so we don’t have to rebuild the broken galleries it left when we removed Jetpack. We have a few questions.

    1. Does this plugin use the native WordPress gallery?
    2. Does it create additional thumbnails in various sizes for every gallery created? We’re concerned about server space.
    3. We installed it to give it a try, but there’s no evidence anywhere on our site that the plugin is even there, other than on the installed plugins page showing that it’s been activated. We’re using the Valenti theme. Is there a known conflict? We’ve never had a plugin simply not show up at all. We’re open to troubleshooting ideas.

    Thanks,

    Carrie @ Two Small Potatoes

Just scroll to the bottom of the post and you’ll see a simple image gallery with 3 thumbnails in a row. They currently display correctly and open up into a lightbox because we’re testing Justified Gallery, a simple plugin that also uses the native WP gallery. It’s a good alternative at this point to having all of our image galleries broken.

    Thanks for looking into this,

so you got it working with justified gallery? looks good. not sure if there’s anything else I can do. I don’t think you can have both gallery plugins installed without conflicts. so if justified gallery is working for you I’d stick with that one ??

We actually don’t intend to stick with Justified Gallery since the default in the free version is to allow downloading of our images. We have to pay $30/year ongoing to upgrade to Pro just to turn that off. That’s why we’re still shopping around for another plugin. But we do need it to be compatible with another gallery plugin, so if your plugin isn’t, then it won’t work for us either.

    Thanks anyway. ??

which plugin do you need it to be compatible with?

I would love to see a page with a native gallery on your site, with no other gallery plugins installed except for mine, so I can see the problem.

Either FooGallery or Photo Gallery by Web Dorado.

That’s the problem! I would re-install your plugin and create a gallery for you to see, but it simply isn’t functional on my site. Even with no other gallery plugins installed, when I install your plugin, I don’t see any option to add a gallery beyond the regular options for the native WordPress gallery. It’s like the plugin just isn’t installed.

that’s normal. You just need to create a normal gallery. RGG will take over on the front end.

If you would like to change some global settings, you can do so in the admin sidebar under RGG Gallery.

If you would like to change some things for one specific gallery, you can extend the shortcode from text view, see https://bdwm.be/rgg/shortcode-parameters/
