• I have used the NextGEN Gallery plugin for almost a year. Previously I hosted my photos at an ‘award winning’ photo site for five years. I wanted a WordPress site and did not want to use a photo theme. After playing around with various photo related plugins, I chose the NextGEN Gallery plugin. It is not perfect, but it does what it has to.

I purchased the add-on for premium support. You also get the PLUS add-on. Becky, Cias, and even Scott Wyden Kivowitz responded promptly. This add-on is a good deal for WordPress novices like me or people moving over thousands of photographs to a WordPress platform.

Things that I do not like with NextGEN Gallery is the voting system for ideas (PLUS or PRO membership required). Many ideas that are common sense or easy fixes should just be done. The voting system at the ‘award winning’ photo site is pretty much a joke and hopefully NextGEN Gallery will not go down that slope.

A good point about NextGEN Gallery is its popularity. Because this is a very popular plugin and owned by Photocrati, it is a good bet that any potential plugin exploits will be immediately patched. That is a big plus.

Maybe one day the WordPress core will have use folders in their media library. Then we can all get rid of these photo plugins. Until that day happens though, NextGEN Gallery does what it has to do.
