  • Hello @codeman1234,

it’s working! You can see the link at the source code and if you are using a different IP Adress while visiting the site (and using the whole link), you will get banned!

Look at the banned host list and you find my IP from 2020/07/02 @ 09:38:41 am.

    Hasta luego!

    Hello @codeman1234,

you are sure, those bots accessing your site (you have a stats-plugin)?

I’m using the plugin at approximately ten sites and the blocking results are very different, even while they are similar! But i’m not monitoring with other stats if there is access by bots.

Anyway: The plugin don’t block bots directly while they are bots.

If the bot respects the rule in robots.txt, then it does not visit the link and is not blocked.

So far, I don’t recognize from my many different IP addresses in the blacklist that there are “learning effects” because of the always identical “?blackhole=” link and the text you see in the source code.

In the Pro version this can be changed, which would make learning effects much more difficult.

Maybe this could be a solution if you suspect that bots recognize the honeypot.

@codeman1234 the plugin does not block *all* bots, only the ones that disobey your robots.txt rules and fall into the blackhole trap. No other bots are affected by this plugin. Also, as explained in various places in the plugin documentation, certain cache plugins are not compatible with blackhole, just FYI. So make sure to check on that as well.

As you mentioned the plugin is working for you now, I’m gonna go ahead and mark this thread as resolved. Please feel free to post again with any further questions, feedback, etc. We’re always glad to help. Thank you.
