• I cannot import my most of the old comments from the site into Disqus. New ones seem to post ok, though.

This is the error message I am getting:
    wxr_reviewit4you_1327551441
XML syntax error: Opening and ending tag mismatch: encoded line 23 and script, line 46, column 16

I have disabled all the plugins and have disabled caching to no avail. I have Disqus installed on two sites and am having the same problem with both sites – the line numbers are just different. Additionally, when I do a manual export and attempt a manual import, Disqus will not read the WordPress file at all.

  • Hi SexyDawnT,

We’re happy to take a look if you would kindly open a support case with Disqus Support . Please include a copy of the XML file you’re trying to import.

Thanks and we’ll be in touch soon.

SexyDawn or anyone else with this problem: In my case these errors, both from the auto-syncing tool and from manual WXR exports, is caused by malformed content inside posts or comments. Things like invalid UTF-8 characters or invalid HTML/XML can both cause XML errors, and when that happens the entire file gets dumped by Disqus and not imported. For auto-exports that means one posts and it’s comments, for manual exports that means the entire file gets ignored (as you noticed when you tried to upload the WXR and it doesn’t even try to import any of the comments).

You need to figure out what is wrong with your posts and fix it in wp-admin, then re-export the WXR and try uploading it again. The errors Disqus gives you are hard to parse and not complete at all. To speed things up I recommend using the xmllint UNIX tool to pre-screen your export files. It’s installed by default on OSX at least and is simple to run:

    xmllint my-wordpress-export.wxr

That will show you the errors that the disqus importer would, but it’s way faster than uploading and gives you more detail (though the detail is still hard to understand, you have to investigate each post and look for the problem).

    I have the same problem.
    Any solutions?

    darkpollo,

Have you tried any of the steps jeremyclarke mentioned?

    E.g.,
    – run xmllint
    – see if the errors our importer provides (which have been improved quite a bit recently) help provide any direction
    – contact https://disqus.com/support directly

    Best,

    Tyler

    I have.
The only thing that worked was to make the import 4 times and it looks like the last one went ok.

Not sure why the 4th was different, i just did the same thing.

    ??

    So, keep trying. ??
