    I downloaded several plugins from WP to my domain server and then placed them in wp-content/plugins folder. Are they supposed to show up in my plugin directory in the admin portion of my blog?

  • Yeap. You need to extract them and upload it. Do note make sure there there is no tested folder like /wp-polls/wp-polls/wp-polls.php. It should be just /wp-polls/wp-polls.php
