I currently have a site with a custom post type entitled “News”. My settings include:

    Post Type: Post is selected
Custom Post Type: “News” (without the quotes)

When I don’t have news, the template will display for all regular posts, but even with News I can’t get the template to display on the custom post type News edit page…I don’t even get a Custom Field Template box like I see on the Page edit pages.

    Help is appreciated.

  • Is “News” the label of your custom post type, or the name (slug)?

Normally I’d use “News” as the label (which appears in the menu in the dashboard) but the actual name (or slug) would be all lowercase – i.e. “news” (without quotes). The latter is what should be used in the the Custom Post Type field.

Could make a difference to you?

The problem was using the capital N in “news”. Switching to a lower case switched it, thanks BrenFM!
