• Wow, this plugin repository is weird.

I just submitted for this plugin to be hosted on the repository.

And after doing it I realized that it’s an approval process!? I just put in the plugin url as my website.

Well, that’s not going to help because there is no plugin there. So there isn’t anything for them to approve.

And there doesn’t appear to be any way to delete the request. And no clear link to communicate with the people approving it.

So I’m posting here, wherever here is. In a new topic for a plugin that will never get approved that I can’t delete and re-add properly.

    Clear as mud.

I was thinking that I would just sign up and receive a repository link. And then be able to start uploading.

So that’s great. If I can’t do that then how does this work. Every time I want to share a plugin with the community in order to get the ability to update my plugins on my sites through the normal update mechanism I have to submit and wait?

It seems like at least wordpress could offer private subversion or easy to setup third party server locations that are called during update. So that you can use the update mechanism and also server clients in a timely manner.

I don’t know why things are designed this way, but it is definitely a roadblock to getting things done.

Or is there something that I missed?

It’s an approval process. However, once you get added, you don’t need to wait to update.

The approver (yes, one guy) is busy this weekend and may be behind, however the only delay is in the beginning. Once you’re approved, you’re good to go ??

Don’t worry, you can fix the URL later when it’s approved. I did the same thing.

Thanks, so what is there to approve if there is no plugin?

I want to play nice whatever the process is. I’m just confused.

Is this like moderation. The person approving is just making sure someone didn’t spam the form? Or is there some other criteria?

Is there no global approval for a developer?

I was starting to get a bit excited about using the repository, but every minute counts. When developing a solution for someone I want to be on version control from minute one, before the project is complete. It seems kind of broken to not have the ability to private repository something and use the update mechanism and then enable access when you think its ready for the public.

I understand that would make the repository more complex to administer, but it makes me want to look a different updater that I can just point to git and clone into wordpress, where I don’t have wait on someone else and I can set whatever policy I want.

Problem is, I haven’t seen something like that yet that I don’t have to build myself, but maybe I just haven’t looked hard enough.

    Basically that’s all ??

    Sweet. I’m in now.

How about on the developer page putting another section or footnote.

    Something like.

    *Approval

Currently the approval process is a manual check designed to cut down on spammy entries. If you have a live website for your business that is clearly development related you will likely be approved. There is currently no code review involved in the approval process. This process is subject to change without notice.

Or some such message that better reflects what is actually going on in the black box.

Thanks for your support you pointy eared backstabber. ??

I’ll pass it on ?? That page is locked ??

    (Edited: though it DOES say…

    1. Sign up.
    2. Within some vaguely defined amount of time, some one will approve your request.
    3. You’ll then have access to a Subversion Repository where you’ll store your plugin.

I know one rogue that’s going to get let go from the guild for neglecting his lock picking skills.
