[Plugin: Contact Form 7] Required Radio Button Revisit

I have a Contact Form 7 form on which I’d like to make radio buttons required. I’ve read about this and have seen the point that radio buttons are required by default in HTML. However, I am able to submit my form without making a selection for the radio buttons, so that isn’t bearing out to be true.
I’ve seen some people set a default choice for the radio buttons, making sure at least one option is selected. In my case, this is a survey and the results will be evaluated statistically. If I set default choices for the radio buttons, I can’t be confident the person actively chose that option and that would skew the statistics. They may have simply missed the question, or thought they already answered it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Another survey plug-in would work, but I’m having a hard time finding one that doesn’t require a third-party service and/or isn’t broken.
I’m using WP 3.3, CF7 3.0.2.1, and Contact Form to Database Extension 2.2.4.
