There seems to be a lot of users seeing problems with a combination of Contact Form 7 and WordPress 3.4. The problem is that after upgrading WordPress to 3.4, contact forms fail to send mail and show error messages of “Failed to send your message” with red border.

To investigate this issue closely, we need more information about environments where it happens. We’d like to do a survey. If you see those problems, please answer the questions below as a comment to this topic. Please do not comment here if you have different kind of problems as it’s confusing.

    1. Do you receive other mail (like comment notifications) from WordPress?
    2. What hosting service do you use?
    3. What version of PHP do you use?
    4. What other plugins do you use?
    5. Do you use a SMTP plugin like WP Mail SMTP? Does it solve the issue?
    6. What theme do you use?

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Ignore my earlier message – it is working now. I forgot to include date for the email message body of the form.

The combination of wp 3.4.1 with contact form 7 v 3.2 gives me a white screen of death on the admin panel.

    Hi,

I am also currently having issues with the Contact Form 7 with it not sending emails using WordPress 3.4.1.

I can state that this combination is not working for me, for one of the sites I developed. It also doesn’t work for me if I use the WP Mail SMTP plugin.

I can also state the the combination of WordPress 3.3.2 with the Contact Form 7 plugin works perfectly.

Can someone please assist as this plugin has been working perfectly but since the upgrade to WP 3.4.1, this is no longer the case.

My client is asking to resolve asap as if I cannot fix, will need to look at other options.

    Hopefully someone can assist asap.

FYI, I am running PHP v5.2 on GoDaddy.com

    Thanks.
    Tony.

It was your second question which clinched it, Takayuki—what’s set in the To, From, & Subject fields?

I was prepping a comment to say, “still not working for me, with no theme/plugins.” I went to double-check who WAS I sending TO and FROM etc. Almost nothing there.

It was staring me in the face, but I didn’t see it several times around, because I KNEW I’d added that info, and gotten the site working previously—on a different server.

My guess is moving the server/updating my database file munged that. So, anyone else, if you are reading this,
triple-check that the contact form’s info is still there!

    Hi Takayuki!

The plugin works for me in 3.4.1 fine

the only thing is that I have set a gmail account to receive the messages thru the form and they appears only in spams

I have read many articles about this but I want to hear your opinion on what sould I do with this

    Hi,
    i also have had issues.

    Details:
after updating wordpress to 3.4, and other plugins, my visual editor went white but the code was still there (hidden)..
I followed instructions from others have the ‘white page’ issue, and deactivated all plugins, then 1 by 1 activating to find the broken one..
I also followed the instructions from CF7 about deactivating Jetpack contact form to avoid any clashing issues there..

    Issue fixed:
After deactivating CF7, the white page issue goes.
If there any new errors of CF7 not co-existing with updates from wordpress etc, or other plugins, causing this ‘white page’ error..?

The issue was not different, using other browsers.. the same across all..
I really like the CF7 plugin, simple, easy to use etc..

So if any ideas of what it could be, i’d love any help.

    Thank you.

I had the same problem with CF7 not working; however, I had not made any recent changes. As it was a server side error – I called my host (bluehost) and it turns out I had hit my email limit. They raised the limit and it worked again. It was never a problem with CF7 or wordpress.

So, my suggestion – also consider checking with your web host. Especially if you have not made any recent changes/upgrades.

ps. Takayuki, thanks for getting involved with helping to resolve this issue and for developing this plugin – it’s been great!

    Did anyone solved this?

i did not get this resolved. I tried to expand the php memory, but that did not work. I found out that using this plug-in with a non-US version of wordpress (in my case dutch) makes it run out of memory. I changed eventually to the US version of wordpress and now it works fine. I suspect the plugin does not manage memory carefully enough…

    Hi,

I tried everything explained here and some other resources I Googled. Nothing works for me. The plugin does work most of the time, but I still get the red message around 25% of the time.

    1. Everything works greats. I also have another contact plugin working fine (while I wait for a CF7 fix)
    2. Linux VPS
    3. PHP 5.2.17
    4. Akismet
    BackUpWordPress
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Gravity Forms (and some extensions)
    Profile Builder
    Relevanssi
    WooCommerce
    WordPress SEO
    WP-Mail-SMTP
    WP Email Template LITE
    WP User Frontend

    5. Yes. WP Mail SMTP. it does not solve the issue.
    6. Builder Theme: https://themeforest.net/item/the-builder-multipurpose-wordpress-theme/2005416

    Thanks

Make sure your message body isn’t blank or it will fail. Just fixed mine by simply adding a message body. Might recommend to the Contact Form 7 Plugin author to add a space by default to the message body or something so this doesn’t happen. Either that or a more appropriate error message if possible.
