    Hello,

Just installed the plugin and immediately got the error “Warning: fgets() [function.fgets]: SSL: fatal protocol error in (server)/wp-content/plugins/constant-contact-api/class.cc.php on line 1913”. The error went away after disabling the plugin. Its a Linux server running PHP V5.1.4.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

  • If I remember write that is caused because your server does not allow openssl. Open a support ticket with your host and ask if its installed & open.

Thanks for the quick reply. Here is what Hosting.com said:

It appears your plugin is attempting to reference a connection on port 443, which is the secured SSL port access. Seeing as you do not have a private SSL configured I would suspect that is the nature of this error. OpenSSL is installed and functional with all the SSLs on this server.

If they are correct in their assessment, then I will not be able to use this plugin without purchasing a private SSL. I’m hoping that is not the case because it looks like you did a nice job with this.

    Thanks.

I have nothing to do with the plugin. Just answer questions on the forums when I have time.
Presuming you are on a shared server. You might just need a dedicated IP address for your website. Contact your hosting company and ask them what you need. They should have told you in their response.

mskopel: According to the Constant Contact docs the only way to authenticate is with https* and the api url used by the plugin is https://api.constantcontact.com, so it makes sense that it is trying to use an SSL connection.

Have you tried this again lately? It seems like maybe there was a service interruption at Constant Contact that was causing this error for various users. If you re-enable the plugin, do you still get the error?

For what ever reason, it is working now. Not sure why or if I even care. Thanks Jeremy.

So to summarize, the issue was on the Constant Contact side of things, not the plugin.
