    Hi

When Enhanced Measurement is enabled in GA4 then using your plugin leads to duplicate outbound click events being registered in GA4.

I know that if one digs through enough of your documentation there’s mention somewhere that Enhanced Measurement can conflict with some of your functionality. But really it needs to be made crystal clear below where you add the GA Measurement Id’s in the plugin settings that using Google’s recommended Enhanced Measurement setting will conflict with your default plugin setting! I spent a lot of time troubleshooting this for my client.

FYI, I did submit this same issue via your Lite Support page, but am adding it here also in case other users run into this issue.

    Hi there,

I am also experiencing this issue – cloaked outbound links are only showing once in GA4, but direct outbound links are being reported twice.

Is the only way to resolve this issue turning off enhanced measurement for clicks in Google Analytics?

I have another site using a different plugin for connecting the Google Analytics ID and this duplicate tracking is not occurring.

    Thanks.

Hi @rrodda75 – turning off enhanced measurement for GA was the only way I got this to fixed. Monsterinsights does the same thing as enhanced measurement when it comes to tracking outbound link clicks, hence the duplicate events. Since cloaked links are really internal links with a redirect they are not affected by this.

How is this not flagged in the setup process. When you set up GA4, Enhanced Measurement is all enabled by default. When you go through the MonsterInsights setup process, it should really provide an alert that when using their plugin, Outbound Clicks and File Downloads should be turned off in GA4 to avoid duplicate events. Grr…

I actually think Enhanced Measurements should be enabled as per GA4 default, and MonsterInsight should only add other/additional measurements on top of that.

Reason: website maintenance and analytics account management is usually taken care of by different people. It would be logical for analytics account managers to enable Enhanced Measurements if they see it’s switched off.
