Plugin causes 500 Bad Response Errors Unreachable from Google/FB

    Hi I noticed that my site didn’t seem to be appearing in Google and seemed to be having issues with Facebook Open Graph, giving out a 500 error when IQ Block Country is activated.

    I checked with Webmaster Tools and ‘Fetch as Google’ and get !Unreachable – which become the Completed green tick as it should when I disable the plugin – same thing happens with FB Open Graph Debug where I first noticed the issue.

    Doesn’t matter if I have Search Engines Allowed or not, and USA is allowed on the front and backend, just activating it causes the Unreachable in Google Webmaster Tools (and I suspect Facebook) – something is blocking the bots from scraping the site. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling from scratch too – basic settings. Still the same.

    The weird thing is, it can’t be the server as I have both WordPress SEO AND IQ Block on other domains on the same server, also running WP4, which these even didn’t have the Search Engines setting allowed, and is fine. Comes up green Completed when I try and Fetch?

    And just checked and it also solves the debug Open Graph issue too https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.radioclash.com%2F – now showing 206 and updated properly if you click Fetch, but if I have IQ Block Country or WordPress SEO activated it says Bad Response 500? My other site doesn’t do that at all…

    Can’t think what might be causing the bots to be blocked. Sadly now I’ve disabled IQ I’m getting loads of login attempts from the countries I was blocking :-/

    I have the same issue with one other plugin, Yoast’s WordPress SEO – of course not at the same time, it seems to be the same issue but separate – i.e. if you delete WordPress SEO it doesn’t fix IQ Block Country, and vice versa…they both have to be deactivated before the site can be scraped.

    Hi,

    I cannot reproduce this.

    Both Google and Facebook are allowed through if I ban all countries and allow those search engines.

    Error 500 might point to other causes. Your PHP error logfile or Webserver log file might add helpful info.

    Hmm strange, seems to be something in my theme, my child theme (I’m using Shaken & Stirred theme).

    Oddly I took out some spaces from the header.php, then renamed and put back the functions.php and one of those things fixed it?
