[Plugin: BulletProof Security] No permission to post comments

Did you click the AutoMagic buttons before activating ALL BulletProof Modes?

General Troubleshooting steps to take BPS out of the equation:
1. Make a backup of your .htaccess files using BulletProof Security built-in Backup.
2. Activate Default Mode on the Security Modes page.
3. Use the Delete wp-admin .htaccess feature on the Security Modes page.
4. Test your plugin or theme.
5. Restore your .htaccess files using BulletProof Security built-in Restore.

I just noticed that you said your root folder permissions were set to 705. Not all web hosts allow 705 permissions for your root folder. 750 and 755 are standard root folder permissions that should work on all web hosts with CGI configured Servers.

The root (actually, the WordPress root folder, not the actual site root) was 755 originally. I had changed it based on what the plugin suggested, but it didn’t help. I’ve changed it back.

As to the previous comment, I want to say Yes, I clicked the AutoMagic button first, but it was a while ago, so I could be mis-remembering.

I followed the steps to remove BPS, except for actually deleting the plugin and started from scratch. This now work, except that Firefox seems to want to resend the posted comment twice. Not certain what that’s about, but I’m sure it’s something else.

The only thing I did different (IIRC) was that instead of clicking both AutoMagic buttons, I only clicked the “create secure .htaccess file” button. I think I clicked both last time. Does this make a difference at all?

hmm never heard of a FireFox double comment posting issue. BPS does not do anything directly in regards to comment templates so I can’t think of a logical connection to BPS, but I will do some testing and see if this could somehow be related to BPS.

The default.htaccess and secure.htaccess AutoMagic buttons do 2 separate things so whether or not you clicked 1 or both of the buttons would not make a difference.

hmm interesting. I posted a comment on your site with Chrome and then with Firefox and Firefox prompted me with this pop up confirm alert – “To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier”. I was successfully able to post with both Chrome and Firefox, but some javascript is obviously involved in the process.

Yea, it does seem to be a Firefox thing. If you confirm, it tries to double-post, which fails because it’s a duplicate. If you cancel, it shows up fine.

The site also loads extremely slow in FF. Chrome loads fine. FF has kind of lost it’s luster for me lately… :p

Oh yeah your are right. I thought Firefox posted the comment successfully, but i see a message that says something about the comment being a duplicate. What I assume is happening here is that Firefox sees an action that is questionable and is trying to protect the submitter. Since your comment template is more advanced then a standard WP comment template since it allows comment follow-up then most likely you will have to tweak it for Firefox. I have no idea what that would require and no idea where the action is coming from ie your Theme or a Plugin. ??
