[Plugin: BuddyPress Group Email Subscription] This plugin is a great idea, but won't work

It installs, the links appear, but there’s a spinning wheel next to the link and no mail is delivered. This plugin is a big deal to me and if we could shake loose the developer, I’d be happy to donate a $100 for a workable fix.
