Plugin breaks 4.9 Theme Editor

  • Just a heads up on this. After troubleshooting an issue a customer was having with the new Theme Editor, I found that this Custom Contact Forms is conflicting with the save function. To be sure, I tested against a new WP 4.9.1 install with only this plugin activated. The problem popped up on that installation as well.

    So if you see this:

    “Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.”

    Disable the Custom Contact Forms plugin and try saving again. You can reactivate after that. According to the forum, this isn’t the only plugin causing the problem, but as it is one, this post may help save some headaches.
