    Hi there –

Thank you for the fantastic plugin, it’s a great addition – and necessary – addition to any BuddyPress-powered site.

I was wondering if it’s possible to make options for those who wish to either:

    • Combine the search fields into a single “Search Members” field
    • Incorporate it into the existing search

Having one of or both of these options, perhaps along with an “Advanced Member Search” link, would really make this plugin shine.

I ask because, in terms of our site, we’re dealing with both limited visual space and varying computer literacy among our users. They find the fine levels of granularity a bit overwhelming.

Any assistance would be welcomed. Thanks again!

I’m not sure I fully understand your needs, could you please send me a wireframe or mockup to illustrate your ideas? Thank you!

Thanks for the quick reply, Andrea!

We are currently developing a site that has quite a few different types of users from all over the world, and their comfort with using large forms varies.

So, we’re wondering if it’s possible to either:
    1. Use the functionality you’ve developed within Buddypress’ default search form, as seen here: https://ati-net.com/profile-search-home.png.

This would be available across the whole site. Since we’ve created custom fields like “Home Country,” the users have been trying to search those types of values through that header search form and are confused when it doesn’t generate any results.

    2. The more likely option, given that you designed it to stay on the Members page, is the option to show only a single search field that searches all profile fields, as seen here: https://ati-net.com/profile-search-member-page.png

So, instead of listing each profile field as a separate search input, users can use one search input to find anything.

As you can tell from the second mock-up, our page is already pretty full. When the full “Profile Search” form is showing, the page becomes quite long and a bit intimidating to users. (Here is a recent screen shot of the page with the Profile Search form showing: https://ati-net.com/current-member-page.png)

    Does that make more sense?

    Cheers.

Yes, I can see what you mean. The functionality you describe in point 2 is already available without plugins, it’s the ‘Search anything …’ little form in your last screenshot. If you just replace the words ‘Search anything …’ with ‘Search for members’ you get the screenshot, and the functionality, of your point 2.

Please give it a try and let me know if that’s what you need.

    Cheers,
    Andrea.

    Hi Andrea,

Yes, I swore I had searched for extended profiles successfully using that form before. Unfortunately, it stopped working a month or so ago. (Well, it still works, it just doesn’t return results from extended profiles.)

I tried disabling different plugins to see if there was a conflict, but to no avail.

Have you heard of this happening before? Should I be asking further questions on the BuddyPress forums?

Sorry, I have no clue. Just tried in one installation, it’s working fine for me.
