[Plugin: BlogWell’s Simple Image Link Widget] WordPress 2.8.4 and Simple Image Link

I tried to add this widget in WordPress 2.8.4 Somehow it is not saved in the sidebar. I did see that this plugin is only supported until WordPress 2.7. Two questions:
1/Author are you going to upgrade the plugin?
2/Do others here have positive experiences with this plugin and WordPress 2.8.x
