    With your plugin activated a user name cannot login to the dashboard. But the the SAME user can log in with their email address.

    The user name is correct and the password is correct, in fact the password is being used for the email address login.

    If I deactivate your plugin the user can log in using their user name OR their email address.

    Why is this happening please?

    Could you please navigate to Security => Settings => Advanced => WordPress tweaks => Users? Then set the option to EMAIL ADDRESS OR USERNAME
