• Wow, amazing idea for a plugin. Unfortunately, when I attempt to use it to create and new topic for previously existing posts and copy comments to the topic, I get this error in place of the comments:

“Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /home/diyrecor/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress-post-topics/index.php on line 386”

And the plugin creates a new post for each comment. No new topics or posts are created in my bbPress forum.

Any thoughts? Thanks a ton for this great plugin.

  • Hi Meathands,

That error is referring to some bbPress 2.0 compatibility code and probably isn’t connected to this issue. That being said, I haven’t had any reports of anything like this, so who knows. ??

Can you give some details on your install? Versions on WP, bbP, and this plugin? Any other plugins running?

    – David

And I forgot to ask: does this happen when you publish an individual post, or just when using the bulk import?

    Hi David,

Thanks so much for your response, I really appreciate it and the work you’ve put into this plugin

It turns out the culprit was a plugin called “Post Type Switcher.” It was confusing WWPTFP into creating posts instead of topics and replies.

I am still getting the error “Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /home/diyrecor/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress-post-topics/index.php on line 386” on my production site, which is strange because I can’t replicate it on my local server.

    Any thoughts on this?

Thanks again for the great plugin.

    Hi Meathands,

No problem! I appreciate your bug report and am happy to help. The only thing I can think of is maybe you have strict errors enabled one one but not the other. Honestly, though, with strict error reporting enabled you’d probably see a whole lot of other stuff too.

Anyway, that line is coming out of the next release as I’m moving away from the old $bbp global (except where needed for compatibility), so that ought to take care of the error.

I hope to have that release out tonight, but there’s still a bit more testing to do. Keep an eye out!

Very cool! Installed the new release today. Even without scrict errors, I still got the error but now on line 446. For the moment I’ve decided just to disable display_errors and enjoy this awesome plugin.

    Best,
    Peterson

Just want to confirm issues with this plug-in and plug-in Post Type Switcher.

With both enabled, I couldn’t pick a forum in the dropdown – it would be reset after saving the post. Also this plug-in would create duplicate posts and not forum topics, same as Meathands above.

    FYI.

Here here! I came across this and immediate disabled “Post Type Switcher.” Everything started working great. Thanks for the plugin!
