Unfortunately that’s outside the scope of this plugin, but a good idea still. I’d suggest someone taking my plugin and extending/forking it to include this type of behavior.

This plugin is geared towards administrators who run small/medium forum and want to be notified when there is a new topic – this way they don’t have to constantly check the forums for new activity. It’s particularly helpful for people who are using bbP as a support forum as they can get emails when new users post a issue.

Man I’d donate to a developer who added the two features requested to your plugin. I’ve been searching for hours and only have found tons of people & posts looking for these two features and ‘just settling’ on your plugin.

In my case I run a blog/forum on several open-source micro-controller Libraries. Each library has a handful of code contributors who will answer end-users questions and problems.

    (1) I’d like to not inundate them with new topic emails in the forums that don’t relate to the particular library they help with.

    (2) I’d like power users who take time to help others to be able to ‘subscribe’ to a particular forum easily.

The ability to let users subscribe to a forum is a major missing flaw in bbpress. You would be filling a giant hole if you added the feature.

@ madsci1016 1) wouldn’t be to hard I don’t think. Essentially I could create a metabox that shows up when you edit a forum in the admin, where you could input email addresses that would be notified on new topics.

If this was done, basically any email addresses entered in the forum settings (as is now) would be “global” and would be notified for all new topics across the entire forum, while email addresses entered on the forum edit page would only get updates for that forum.

Would that accomplish what you’re talking about? Could be a nifty feature for 2.0.

As far as point 2, that’s probably outside the scope of this particular plugin, though I certainly like the idea. This plugin is really for administrators, so for functionality for regular users would be best for a separate plugin.

Yes, and I’ll take what I can get. It would definitely be a big help as I don’t mind registering the emails manually for now and I don’t want to frustrate the devs who do this in their spare time.

I know little php and sql, but may be able to kludge my way through a outward facing signup form at some point.
