• Hi,

Great plugin. I can see from this forum that this plugin has been given a new lease on life recently, and I’m really pleased it has!

As a follow on from my previous post (https://bit.ly/urXA1k), I’m thinking of ways BackupWordPress can be made available to users who aren’t admin’s. Fair enough if the bones of the setup are only available to someone with admin rights, but generally I’d want the end user to have access to the backup files so they can download them and take ownership of their own backups (especially when emailing them the whole file backup becomes unfeasible due to the file size).

So. Here are my suggestions. Apologies if they are already planned, but just take it as a thumbs up from me ??

    • eMail Notification – Rather than send the whole backup, how about having the option to only send a text based email with a link detailing the backup files location. (Perhaps with the option of customising the message, so you can explain the volatile situation regarding the files existance in your own words.)
    • Dashboard Panel – I like customising my clients experience when logging into the backend. I have a heads up display for Google Analytics and a notepad widget so I can communicate information to them via the backend. I think it would be great to have a dashboard plugin that displays the most recent backups and the option to download them.

Just my two pennies worth, but I think it would add a whole new level of functionality to an already great, and steadily improving plugin!

    Thanks,
    Andy.

    Hi,

I’ve actually created a dashboard widget today that does just what I described above. I’m in the process of submitting it to the plugin directory (however the hell it works) and I look forward to adding a link here soon.

    Thanks,
    Andy.

    Hi Andy,

    Both good suggestions.

If you send me a pull request on github for the dashboard panel I’ll take a look and integrate into the next release.

Great plugin, indeed! Thank you, Tom!

Since I started using backupwordpress, I stopped using two other backup plugins (WP-DBManager and myEASYbackup). The first dealt only with databases, while the other dealt with both.

I have a feature suggestion, too: is it possible to have two schedules? One, more frequent (e.g. daily), backing up the database and the other, less frequent (e.g. monthly), backing up the files.

If this is not possible, other option would be to execute a manual backup with different options. That would allow to set a daily database backup and manually make a full backup from time to time…

    What do you think?

    Hi Jose,

    Glad your liking BackUpWordPress.

The ability to have multiple schedules is definitely something we’ve got planned, it’s a fairly complex feature though and something we want to get right so we don’t have a timescale for it yet.

    Hi Tom,

Sorry if I’m “pushing”, but I think until you implement this feature, one could benefit from being able to start a backup with different options. For example:

    1. from time to time I could open BackUpWordPress page, select “files only”, “data only” or “full backup” (using a radiobutton) and press “backup now” and get this ad-hoc backup done;
    2. another approach is to implement on demand backup (with these exceptional options) through URL. This way it could be implemented by cron (I use Crontrol, for example).

    What do you think?

    Hi Jose,

That option is already present, if you click settings then the settings menu should show up below the backups table, in there among other settings is the ability to choose whether to backup database, files or both.
