This plugin puts an large plea for money on your dashboard – especially embarrassing for a multi-site network or multi-author blog, since the message calls you out personally by name but goes to all your authors. Frankly, this is such bad form, I think the plugin should be removed from the WordPress plugin repository.

  • You are absolutely right. This is so ridiculous. If you want to charge for a plugin then go and do it…but this type of action is bordering on a Virus. You should be ashamed of yourself. With all the great developers out in the wordpress community doing great work. This is a terrible disgrace. I completely agree with wadams92101 – This plugin should be removed or come with a very big warning message for users. This guy obviously doesn’t understand what wordpress is all about!

If you spend the time and resources to create free WordPress plugins, then you should be able to display a call to action on the administration dashboard. You can simply uninstall the plugin if you find that annoying.

If you want to modify the plugin and remove that action, guess what: you can! All WordPress plugins are open source, even the paid ones.

Also, if you want to remove the box from the admin, click the tab called “Screen Options” in the top-right corner of the Admin, uncheck the donate box, and voila, gone.

Actually, when you try and remove the donation screen as you said (usines the “Screen Options”…it actually is programmed to comeback – on refresh. This is why I refer to it as having Viral-Like Behaviour. If you have not installed this plugin, please do so, and then comment.

This is not about working hard on plugins or a call to action. No one…including us… would disagree with you. All developers that donate to the community can ask for a donation. No problem here at all!

The complaint is how this developer has chosen to do this. It goes way beyond what other developers are doing and is simply obnoxious.

I agree. I don’t have an issue with developers asking for support, but do it on the plugin admin page not the main dashboard and NOT to every member of your website.

I often donate to plugins I like and use frequently but the WAY in which this developer has done it puts me off ever supporting them.
