• this has happened twice now. i moved my work’s website to bluehost a week ago, and twice now, after creating all the posts, categories and pages, the wp_posts table completely gets sucked dry. first time, i couldn’t remember what i’d done right before it happened, all i knew is that suddenly all i was seeing in “manage posts” was that default “hello” one, instead of the 15 posts i’d spent the previous 2 hours creating. the template and plugins were still there, but the plugins were deactivated, and suddenly the default theme was selected instead of my customized one. effectively, my site got forced back to the default install, erasing all the work i’d done.

so it happened again last night, once again, suddenly all posts gone, all plugins deactivated, all categories gone, all pages gone, and moved back to the default template. when i check things via phpmyadmin, my wp_posts table is completely wiped clean, has only that default “hello” post in it.

last night all i can think of that may’ve caused this is that i had just installed and activate the “event calendar” plugin.

only other thing i can think of is that i have been experiencing nothing but problems since i moved this site to bluehost. also,, though i know you’re not supposed to, i’d installed wordpress last night via fantastico, with plans to undo the damage i’ve heard it can cause, security-wise.

has this happened to anybody before? i mean, a database table being completely wiped clean?

First thing I would suspect is that the host restored the table from backups for some reason.

that’s what i suspect, but they’re denying it. and i’m unfortunately not geek enough to figure out if i can prove they did this by looking at logs.

i’m currently reinstalling, this time manually, and will set-up a nightly cron backup, so am keeping my fingers crossed.

i just went through the same thing. apparently, gate.com’s sql server went down this past saturday, when it came back up, all my data was gone.

I realize that this post is 5 months old. Just irritated that a hosting company can just jack your data like that without a warning.

Hopefully you have or will use the information at WordPress_Backups.
