    Good afternoon

Have tried to test the latest version of the Fixed Widget Plugin. Works fine when viewing the site on a laptop, but when simulating viewing the site via a mobile phone the widgets in the homepage primary sidebar overlap the actual homepage when scrolling down. With version 5.3.0 the widgets in the primary sidebar appear at the bottom of the homepage one after the other.

I then cleared the cache and tested again…unfortunately the same result

Thus, I will have to continue with 5.3.0 until you have had the opportunity to investigate.

    Best regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

    thanks for your report!

Would it be possible to see the issue live on your site?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas @webzunft

Thanks for getting back to me. I can certainly take screenshots from my test environment to illustrate the issue. So could please let me know where I can share the screenshots.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

thanks for the offer of screenshots. Unfortunately, we need to see the issue live on a website. The functionality of Fixed Widget is highly dependent on the theme and only seeing the theme code together with the error helps.

We are already going through a few issues. You can wait for one of the next updates and maybe that fixes the problem. If not, I would really appreciate a chance to see the problem live.

    Have a great weekend!

    Hi Thomas @webzunft

    Thanks for your update.

When I install the latest version of the Fixed Widget Plugin, the Homepage is corrupted and thus provides a bad user experience for my readers.

The test environment is an exact copy of the live environment and thus much safer to illustrate the issue. That is why I suggested screenshots from the test environment and not the live environment.

Leave it with you and in the meantime, I will look out for subsequent updates whilst remaining on 5.3.0.

And likewise, have a great weekend.

    Best regards

    Hi Paul,

    I hope you are well.

We made further improvements in version 6.0.2, which is available as a direct download here. I would appreciate it if you could give it a try and let me know if the new version resolves the issues you experienced.

Please make sure to update your website and browser cache as well.

If the issues persist then I would appreciate a link to where I can see them or information on how I might be able to reproduce them.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas

Very well thanks. Hope all is good with you.

Apologies but I am not very technical, so could you please provide a bit of a steer on what steps I have to do once the zip file is downloaded (after clicking here) to install 6.0.2 in my test environment.

    Thanks

    Hi Paul,

    Happy to help.

    You download the zip file.
Then go to your WordPress backend, disable the current Fixed Widget installation under “Plugins”.
Click on “Add New” then “Upload Plugin” at the top of the plugin page.
Select the downloaded zip file and install and activate it.

You now have the new version installed. You can keep the old one to switch back later.

Just in case, reload your browser window in the frontend to apply the changes of the new script. If your site uses caching then please flush your cache.

Now, you can check the issues you experienced before and let me know which of them still happen.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas @webzunft

Thanks for your clear instructions. Successfully downloaded 6.0.2 from the zip file but the error still persists when simulating a mobile phone in that the widgets in the primary sidebar overlay rather than appearing at the foot when scrolling through the homepage (so a reader would see all 18 articles stacked one on top of the other followed by the fixed widget information). Hope that makes sense. If you were to look at the Golfing Herald homepage via a laptop and then again via a mobile device you would see how it currently works with 5.3.0.

I have saved a screenshot that clearly illustrates the issue but not sure how I can share that with you.

    Thanks

    Hi Paul,

thanks for your patience. I just uploaded version 6.0.4 which also contains a fix for overlapping elements. Please check and let me know if it helped.

    Thanks,

    Hi Thomas @webzunft

I have just tested 6.0.4 in my Staging/Test Environment. The issue with the overlapping elements has now been resolved but there is now a new issue.

In my primary sidebar there are 4 fixed widgets…subscription, follow, available on Amazon and a link to a Scottish golf tour. The first 2 widgets are working fine but when scrolling down further the 3rd and 4th widgets are not visible. All that is displayed is a blank area until you reach the bottom of the page.

Hope that makes sense. Happy to provide additional info if required.

    Best regards

    Hi Paul,

    thanks for testing.

What happens when you reach the bottom of the page. Do the 3rd and 4th widgets appear?

Unfortunately, I cannot debug it without being able to see it live or reproduce it. Is this still only on your local environment?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas @webzunft

To confirm, the 3rd and 4th widgets don’t appear…just blank as you scroll down until the foot of the page is reached.

The testing has been done in the Staging Environment. As there is now no overlap I am happy to implement 6.0.4 in the production environment so that you can hopefully reproduce it. But as most of my readers access the site via mobile devices I would like this to be controlled so that I can revert to 5.3.0.

So could you let me know a date next week and say an hour window when you could be in a position to re-produce (I am based in the UK)…I would then implement 6.0.4 at the start of the hour and revert to 5.3.0 at the end of the hour. Hope that makes sense and is something you can work with.

    Best regards

    Hi Paul,

    thanks for your feedback.

It is currently impossible for me to block an hour ahead.

I will let you know when things cool down a bit.

    Thanks,
