    Hi,

I’ve had number of clients reach out to me about a recent banner you have placed at the top of the Products page in WooCommerce. It advertises one of your free plugins and it is a very large banner.

It’s very confusing and all of my customers have contacted met to asked should it be installed and what is it?

That to me is not a very good thing and I’m also wondering given the nature and size of the banner is it not against WordPress rules?

    Kind regards,

    Simon

    Hey Simon,

Thanks for the message and the feedback. Totally understand where you’re coming from and really appreciate you coming to us first to give me a chance to explain ??

We were super careful with this banner for exactly these reasons. I especially wanted to ensure we are keeping within the guidelines at all times while still achieving our business goals.

One of the biggest points in the developer guidelines about notices is relevance which is why we have tied this specific banner to only show for administrator users only (who would have the authority to install a plugin) and also to restrict it to just the relevant screens where a recommendation makes sense (being WooCommerce related screens).

There are also two ways to dismiss the notice if they’re not interested in trying it out, one right next to the install button and one in the top right corner. This is also important to keep in line with the rules to make all notices dismissable.

I’d also draw attention to similar plugins that do similar types of complimentary plugin recommendations, including WooCommerce themselves do as well. They actually have two whole new menu pages inside the dashboard for it (the Extensions page and the Marketing page).

Basically our goal is to ask users to try our new plugin (Advanced Coupons) which we believe is equally helpful for store owners. The plugin adds extra features to coupons with the view of making them more flexible and usable for the everyday store owner.

Actually, I’d really love if you could try it out and leave me some feedback. We’re in learning mode and since you work with a large amount of store owners it sounds as though you’d be the perfect person to be giving us ideas for improvement. I’m really eager to hear from everybody about this new plugin so we can adjust it and make coupons even better which is a huge pinpoint for WooCommerce store owners.

    Cheers,
    Josh (CEO)
