[Plugin: Advanced Responsive Video Embedder] Getting Errors, not sure what's wrong

I am using the following code in a text widget: [youtube id=Vw8qRIdIRsg mode=thumb] – i have a plugin to allow short codes in widgets. But im getting this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding() in /wp-content/plugins/advanced-responsive-video-embedder/shortcode-handling.php on line 195
