I am really enjoying the backend functionality of ACF, but I have a big problem. Currently I have ACF set up for a particular post category and it is making the data antry process for my client very easy. However, aside from the double -WYSIWYG error – I can’t figure out how to have my WordPress search or the Relevanssi plugin access the values in ACF. I can see them right there displayed, but my usual searches produce zero results. Help, please.

  • ACF is indeed pretty cool. I’m using it for my custom post types as well that are in turn configured and working fine with Relevanssi.

Are you sure that your custom field key in ACF is the same as that defined in the custom index fields in Relevanssi options?

I believe so. I checked them in ACF and added them to the area in Relevanssi. Any more info would be welcome, Michael, because I really feel like I am up a creek without a paddle.

I eventually disabled Relevanssi and went with the default WP search but my issue is how to get WP to search on those custom field values (ACF uses custom fields to store my entries, right?). I have tried the “hidden form element” method but no success yet.

It’s quite easy, you need to add the names of all your custom fields in the Relevanssi settings under “Custom fields to include”.

Relevanssi looks great, but I hate to add yet another plugin.

Is there no way to make standard WP search pick up custom fields?

Okay, I couldn’t avoid another plugin, but this one let me include custom fields in standard search results without having to think through all the implications of Relevanssi:
