[Plugin: Advanced Custom Fields] Do updates need to be quite so frequent?

    Love this plugin and am very grateful for all the work that has gone into it, though I’m sure I’m only scraping the surface of what’s possible with it. I do notice that the updates are becoming very, very frequent, sometimes several times a week, and am feeling a bit of plugin update fatigue lately.

    Is there a sensible medium to be struck here? Clearly you don’t want new functionality to be sitting around waiting too long for the next release to come along, and obviously if there were any security bugs they’d need squashing straight away, but it feels a bit intense for the poor site admins just now. Hope this makes sense…

  • Can’t say I agree with you OP. ACF is core to our WP development and the quicker we can get new features/fixes, the better in my opinion. I really appreciate and find reassuring that ACF is being worked on continuously, unlike so many other plugins. You can always just stick with the version you have and not upgrade if it’s a burden, you know ??

    I somehow agree with the OP. I also understand the idea to quick fix the bugs but not to get new features, mostly as per users request. The truth is, you can’t satisfy thousands of users’ need without making the plugin heavier and buggier, period. That is what killed many custom field plugins like Flutter, made many switch from Magic Fields, custom field templates and others to a better light weight plugin. Unfortunately this great plugin “ACF” is going on the same path. Perhaps, next year, it will be a new CF plugin saying “unlike so many other plugins” with the ACF on the dead list!?

    In regards to sticking with the same version, that is not an option for those who use the plugin for their clients and have to update dozens of website for them.

    Back to the devoting time, which I’m very thankful; I believe some of this time should be given to support users who have paid for the available options, ask questions on the ACF forum and barely get any answers back.

    Don’t get me wrong, I love this plugin and the great work the developer has put in it so far but sad to see it taking the same direction used by the “unlike so many other plugins”. I just don’t want that to happen!!

    I have to disagree. I spend about 2 hours every day providing support on the support forum.

    Every single topic is responded too unless I feel that the question is completely irrelevant.
