Hello, I thought I’d let you know that there’s an obnoxious bug with customized menu items and permissions. I want to hide (and I know to hide, not remove) the default appearance/themes page and instead create an appearance menu item that directs the user to the customized theme options page I’ve created, as well as all of the other sup-pages of the usual appearance item.

Unfortunately, when the appearance tab is hidden, something gets messed up with permissions and it is no longer possible to access any themes.php?page=[x.php] page, including my theme options page, the widgets page, and the menus page. For now, I’m resorting to including the default appearance page at the bottom of the menu, labeled ignore, but any better workaround or a fix would be appreciated. Plugin version 1.1.10, WP 3.4.1, by the way.

As a plugin developer myself, I know the importance of bugfixes, and the challenges they can present, but it’s unfortunate when bugs diminish the usability of otherwise great plugins!

I don’t know, it sounds like a mildly rude bug not that obnoxious… ??

I’m not the developer (of any plugin, mores the pity) but you wouldn’t happen to have a patch would you?

Ok, sorry, to clarify, I generally find the whole bug-fixing process obnoxious as a developer. It’s more of an anger at the code, certainly not the developer. No blame, just annoyance about the inevitability of bugs ??

I’m the author of the plugin, and I can confirm that this is indeed an obnoxious bug ?? I’ve fixed it in the Pro version, but the fix involved a major rewrite of of how the plugin handles the internal WP menu data structures so I haven’t fully back-ported it to the free version yet.

Try the development version of the plugin. It includes the aforementioned patch (as well as a lot of other behind-the-scenes changes).

Haha, I had a feeling based on the nature of it. And thanks for working on getting it into the free version too. Congrats on such a great, incredibly useful plugin!
