• Today I wanted to change the permalinks for posts from /%postname%/ to /%postname% – mainly because when shared on facebook, the open graph info won’t get pulled in with the slash at the end.

But when I did this, I lost all of the social share counts I was used to seeing. But I also noticed, there were new counts for Twitter that I haven’t seen before.

Since people share links on social sites sometimes with OR sometimes without the forward slash at the end, is there a way to collect both of these share counts in the social share plugin?

    Thnx,
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah,

The count of each links are stored on facebook/twitter site. The counts are specific to each link and if you change the link structure then all the counts will disappear. This is the default behaviour.

There is no way we can control it in plugin.

But I am surprised, that removing “/” from the link will change the count. Usually when you don’t specify “/” at the end of any link, by default there is a redirect to an URL with “/” appended at end. So i thought it should not matter for counts. But it is strange.

I am afraid but there is no straight forward way to combine count for both the URLs.

    Thanks,
    Kunal
