• Hi,

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place for this.

I am in the process of updating my wordpress site and am encountering issues. When backing up the process cancels itself.

Upon investigation, it appears I have over 14gb worth of files in plug ins. However, i only have a few currently installed and can’t for the life of me find the location of these mystery files…

I have installed various Cache plug ins and disk usage ones to try and find the root of the problem but to no avail.

I would welcome any ideas, thoughts and suggestions.

If this is the wrong place for this, then just let me know where to direct the question!

  • Check to see where your backups are being stored. If they are on the root install, then they are using a lot of disk space. Ideally you should be storing your backup files somewhere else entirely. If this is not a possibility, check to see if your backup routine is including the backup files. You really don’t need to backup your backups.

Backups (often all in one migration),
Log files (wordfence is a beast),
Cached files (wordfence is a beast, and Yoast is a beast)
