Sounds like your site is on WordPress.COM? In which case, you can’t use plugins – see:

These forums are for self-hosted www.remarpro.com sites – not the same thing. https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Ok, so now I’m really confused…what’s the difference between my having the site on .com versus .org?

Can I switch so I get plug ins?

Read the link above – if you want to use plugins, you’ll need to set up (and pay for) hosting, install WP, and voila!
