• Hi all,

    I have just updated 4 plug ins including; askimet, wiziapp, autoptimize and yoast seo but one of them removed my CSS. I have restored a backup of my site via my hosting package to get things back up, but didn’t know if anyone had any ideas which plug in is causing this and what the issue might be?

    The site is https://www.thejunos.co.uk

    Cheers,

    Roger

  • Unless you have a localhost test site, I guess you need to add each plugin one-by-one and see which one breaks your CSS.

    I’ve updated Akismet and Yoast SEO without seeing a problem so try the other 2 first.

    Think it may well be Autoptimize, just found this post:

    Hi Roger;
    I’m autoptimize’s developer. It is possible the new AO messes things up, although I have not found major regressions yet. If you do decide to update AO I’ll be happy to assist troubleshooting. If worst comes to worst you can simply disable CSS optimization and your styling will be back.

    Hi Frank,

    Just updated the plug ins one by one and it was autoptimize which was stripping the styling. Like you suggested, I disabled the CSS optimisation check box and the site looks fine again.

    Any ideas why this would affect my site specifically?

    Kind regards,

    Roger

    Morning Roger;
    Hard to tell, as I can’t see what your site looks like with CSS optimization active.

    The best way forward would be to:
    * re-activate CSS optimization
    * run a test of your broken site on https://www.webpagetest.org/ and copy/paste the resulting URL (only takes a minute)
    * de-activate CSS optimization (but not clicking on “save changes & empty cache” but just “save changes” so I can inspect the cached files)

    based on the test result and the files in cache I can have a look at what is going wrong.

    Hi Frank, never expected to see you over here in the Customizr forum XD

    I’m using Customizir-Pro with Autoptimize and I have not seen any obvious conflicts with the theme.

    There may be some minor quirky behaviour with some things like maybe the hammer.js implementation, but you don’t really notice problems.

    Autoptimize tends to break JS more than CSS, but you can easily fix it by excluding the relevant JS scripts.

    I go where I’m needed (i.e. when I’m pinged because someone mentions AO on the support forums) ??

    Hi Frank,

    Have just gone through the steps you suggested. The link to the test result is here:

    https://www.webpagetest.org/result/160111_W2_10JH/

    I have since deactivated the plug in without emptying the cache as requested…

    Also, I found out today that Autoptimize’s ‘optimize javascript code’ option is causing my Form Maker Pro forms not to work (the calendar in the date box doesn’t ‘pop up’ and the submit button doesn’t work). Any idea how to solve this also (i have this option unchecked at the moment)?

    Kind regards,

    Roger

    hmm … let’s try to get a grip on the CSS stuff first ??

    so based on the webpagetest.org-test you ran, the autoptimize CSS file is … empty. could you have a look at your php error-log, there should be some indication of what is going on there.

    what could also help is if you could temporarily switch off/on your plugins one at a time (and after that briefly switch theme) with CSS optimization active and see if your style comes back at a certain point. if that singles out a culprit, I could look at how the upgrade from 1.9.4 to 2.0.0 impacted that.
