Thanks, that confirms my theory. This is what’s going on:
- Your popular posts widget is configured to list the most viewed posts from the last 7 days that were published within the last 7 days (emphasis here is important, you’ll see next why.)
- The Stats section is currently set up to list your top posts regardless of when they were published.
So, for example, if your #1 post in the Stats section was published in January the widget won’t display it on your sidebar because the widget has been configured to list only posts that were published within the last 7 days from the current date/time. That’s why the posts you see on your sidebar now don’t match which what you’re seeing on the Stats section (that and the settings you were using with Data Sampling and Data Caching before you first posted here.)
Solution:
- Go to Appearance > Widgets > [Your Sidebar] > WordPress Popular Posts.
- Untick the “Display only posts published within the selected Time Range” checkbox under Time Range.
- Scroll down and click on Save to apply changes.
Now the popular posts list on your website should look a bit more like what you’re seeing on the Stats section in the admin dashboard (and I say “look a bit more like” because if you use Data Sampling remember that the popular posts list on your website won’t update “live” as the Stats section does.)
