Plug-in Problems: Akismet, WordPress.com stats, Google XML Sitemaps

  • I am using WordPress 2.8.4 and here the detailed problems with the said plug-ins:

    1. Akismet
    2 days ago Akismet was working perfectly and then yesterday when I open my dashboard it says on top:

    Akismet has detected a problem. A server or network problem is preventing Akismet from working correctly. Click here for more information about how to fix the problem.

    and when I click in the Click here for more info,in the Server Connectivity it

    says:

    Unable to find Akismet servers.

    A DNS problem or firewall is preventing all access from your web server to Akismet.com. Akismet cannot work correctly until this is fixed. Please contact your web host or firewall administrator and give them this information about Akismet and firewalls.

    2. WordPress.com Stats

    WordPress was acting strange so I deactivated all of my plug-ins thinking that it has to do with the problems. Unfortunately, it was not. So I activated all of my plug-ins and wordpress.com is not working anymore.

    When I enter my API key in the configuration page of wordpress.com stats plug-in, it says:


    Error from last API Key attempt:

    Your blog was unable to connect to WordPress.com. Please ask your host for help. (transport error – could not open socket: 11 Resource temporarily unavailable)

    3. Google XML Sitemap

    When I click the rebuild the sitemap manually, it shows:

    # There was a problem while notifying Google. View result
    # There was a problem while notifying Bing. View result
    # There was a problem while notifying Ask.com. View result

    For the google view result, it goes to https://www.thepixelyard.com/wp-admin/1
    For the Bing View Result link, it goes to https://www.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?siteMap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thepixelyard.com%2Fsitemap.xml.gz and it says Thank you for submitting your sitemap
    For the Ask.com View Result, it goes to https://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thepixelyard.com%2Fsitemap.xml.gz saying Your Sitemap submission was successful

    I am using all the latest version for all of this plug-ins and I don’t know why the errors are happening. Can anyone please help me?

  • I have been experiencing the same issues. I am running WP 2.8.4 and akismet 2.2.6. The problem need to be resolved. Help!

    OK guys. I solved this problem! It was that my hosting company (jumpline) added allow_url_fopen = Off to the php.ini (security I guess). I overrode it in my user version of the php.ini and the problem immediately went away.
