@dev1da Hi there, thank you for reporting this topic. Who is your hosting provider and do you have any server-side caching or security measures enabled?
Does this still happen with all other plugins disabled and accessing the dashboard in an incognito window?
If you open developer tools in your browser (press F12) and check the Network tab, do you see any failed requests when trying to access the Stories dashboard?
When you go to Tools -> Site Health, does it say the REST API is available?
Could you provide your Site Health information? You can share privately if you prefer.
The site is hosted on an Amazon Lightsail instance. I’m unsure of server-side caching, but we are using the Sucuri security plugin. I tried an incognito window and still getting error.
I am not seeing any failed requests in the network tab, just the javascript console error posted above.

@dev1da Did this issue occurring after updating the plugin, or was this a new install?
We are investigating similar reports about the “Please wait…” message in this issue which our filenames containing tilde symbols are blocked by some firewalls.
Could you confirm if this issue occurs if you temporarily disable the security plugin and firewall?
If the issue persists, could you please share a screenshot of the console error?
@luckynasan This was a new install using v1.5.0. It seemed to work at first immediately after activation, but after a few days we were getting the “please wait…” message. There were no other changes to the site settings during that time.
I tried temporarily deactivating our security plugin, but that did not work.
@dev1da Thanks for the quick response. Do you see that console error in your Network tab, (example)?
Could you try the following troubleshooting method:
Use Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin and enable its troubleshooting mode. This mode disables active plugins and switches to a default theme safely because it only affects the experience of the logged-in user.– Please enable the Web Stories plugin and let me know if the issue is present.
– Enabling plugins and your theme one by one in this mode may help pinpoint if something else is involved.
– Note you can disable troubleshooting mode from the plugins page.@luckynasan I do not get any errors in the network tab, only in the javascript console.
After enabling troubleshooting mode with default theme and only Web Stories plugin activated, I still get the “Please Wait…” message.

dev1da.
We have a sandbox site that I tested this on as well.
When first activated, all the pages load and the plugin seems to work as intended. I am able to view templates, and open the editor to add a new story. However, after refreshing the page a few times, or going to the dashboard and clicking back to Web Stories, I get the “please wait” error.
I tried deactivating the plugin and reinstalling it, and the error message persists.
This is happening to me, as well. Is there a problem with the plugin?
@katie80 I see that you’ve created a new, separate topic –?thanks! We’ll assist you there.
@dev1da Please note we are still investigating this issue.
I’m unsure of server-side caching, but we are using the Sucuri security plugin.
To confirm, are you using the Sucuri service or firewall (WAF) through the premium version of the Sucuri Security plugin?
@luckynasan We are using the free version of the Sucuri plugin, the firewall is not enabled.
@dev1da Thanks for the response.
After enabling troubleshooting mode with default theme and only Web Stories plugin activated, I still get the “Please Wait…” message.
Could you try this in an incognito browser? What browser and device are you using? Could you share your site URL?
@dev1da Could you update to version 1.6.0 of the Web Stories for WordPress plugin and see if the issue still exists in an incognito browser?
@luckynasan Unfortunately it seems we are still experiencing this issue after updating to the latest version of the plugin.
The “my stories” and “explore templates” pages load normally right after the update, but after a few minutes we only get the “please wait…” message again. This is similar to the behavior we encountered after originally installing the plugin.
We also get the following console error:
Uncaught SyntaxError: Invalid or unexpected token stories-dashboard.js?ver=0e684274b9fe0b2061016ffbcbe62c9a
Thanks for the update @dev1da, and sorry to hear you’re still experiencing issues. We’ll do some more testing on our side and get back to you next week with what we find. Have a great weekend!
