Please Review my site

The hover over is too dark. I would make that a light grey because it makes it so it’s too hard to read. Other than that, the site is fine.

Thanks, I know the hover is messed up. But since I don’t know code I don’t know how to change it. My goal was to have the white change to Italic when I hover over it and then maybe a grey after someone had clicked on it once….similar to my main website at https://www.thecatholictravelguide.com. Can you tell me how to do that? Obviously I set it up the way it is in the beginning but I don’t know how I did that and can’t seem to get back there.

Your blog took some time to load, perhaps you should look to speed up the loading time.

The blue background is a bit too striking, perhaps you can opt for a more peaceful light color.

Would suggest you to cut down on your ads. One square or a bigger rectangle ad in the center of the post page is just enough. You do not need three of them. Having more ads actually lowers the CPC.

Thanks for the input. Staytamed: not sure how to speed up the load time. It seems all right on my end. Could be the google adsense ads slowing it down. I use 3 ads per page on my main website. But that is not a wordpress site and each page is fairly good size. I get decent click-through rates on that site so that is why I did the same thing on my blog site. How would I put an ad in the middle of the post? Not sure how to lay things out so I just used an adsense plug-in that did not give me that option.

Aside from that, I like the floating Social Network stuff. I like the colour scheme, though as has been said before, the hover colour of the navbar is entirely too dark

Additionally, for the sake of your readers and your sanity, you should make either the blog match the site or the site match the blog

Thanks, Dylan. Don’t understand what is wrong with Comic Sans. I have had quite a few people say that they like it. So what is the problem with it?

Regarding the hover color, I agree it is bad but I don’t know how to correct it. Don’t know code and can’t figure out how it got that way in the first place.

Regarding the blog and site matching, not sure how to do that at this time since I am using two different programs. I made them as similar as possible. Eventually I plan to put my main site on WordPress as well but not ready for that yet.

So what is the problem with it?

I have to agree with esmi and DylanR, comic sans was only a font that was created by Microsoft many many years ago before all the lovely new fonts available now. It’s very old school and shows lack of design skill – just in my opinion – when there are some amazing fonts available now which will just take your blog up a notch.

Wow—never knew a poor little font could cause such controversy. I did google it and found a lot of haters…..among designers. However, 99.9% of the visitors to my site are not designers. So, does that mean they will hate it or not? I would have to change 600 pages and am not crazy about doing so unless I think it would radically improve my site.

What fonts do you all recommend? Perhaps I can try one out on one of my pages and run it by you.

Honestly, I, for one, don’t think it’s completely beyond redemption, but there’s a time and a place for everything.

If you want your site to be taken seriously, I wouldn’t use Comic Sans. Every time I look at it, my first thought is ‘work will set you free’. Maybe a little sinister, but that’s almost what it is. A misleading installation of false hope.

Regarding the hover colour, my guess is that the theme you’re using defaults to a very dark grey. It’s very changeable once you know how. What browser are you using?

Regarding the blog / site design, consistence is a very important part of experiencing your site. Customers are easily frightened by anything with a dramatic change of appearance, and while your current fans may stick around through thick and thin, newer viewers may be quick to turn around and run

Though there’s no sense trying to make one look like the other unless you have the time to, but for what it’s worth, I would suggest making the site look more like the blog

Ok, I figured I did something wrong. It was an image in an email. Cute sign that says “comic sans is never an acceptable font. Unless you are an 8-year old girl writing a poem about unicorns.

Still, not convince that it is so terrible but would like suggestions for alternatives.

I am using Google chrome. I don’t know how to change it but would appreciate some advice.

As far as making the site look more like the blog, I actually was thinking the other way around. My main site takes 728×90 Adsense ads and large rectangular ads that I cannot fit in my blog and these ads are very effective. I need to monetize my site to make it worthwhile so Google Adsense is the way I do it so far.

I am not sure how I can change either the main site or the blog at this point to make them more similar. In fact, I thought I had them fairly similar (of course I am an amateur).
