• can some of you please recommend a simple (to install and to use) plugin so i can put advertisements on my news website? i’d like to put local ads on my sidebar (i’m satisfied with the look that westseattleblog uses) i’m not opposed to having a space for an ad that … a horizontal banner ad? (hope i’m using that term correctly) but just want the simplest thing to use.

i’m so new to wordpress and see that wordpress claims i can use wordpress without knowing/doing the php code. i’d sure like to keep operating without doing any of that.

i’ve read thru documentation about plugins and also a bunch of the support forum threads on plugins and looked a the most popular ad plugins. i still have a pretty thin grasp on the vocabulary, thus just asking for recommendations. thanks for suggestions. –sharyn

me again, adserve says its compatible up to wp 2.31, which is why i didn’t pursue it. (i’m using like 2.82, newest a couple weeks ago) also, despite what my profile says, i am a total newbie, not a wp consultant (i couldn’t make that correct when i filled out my profile) thank you sooo very much for your time. –sharyn

I’ve used it on installs up to (and including) 2.8 without any problems,

oh, awesome. can i ask you a couple basic questions?

    (@sharyndecker)

    — so does banner mean a long rectangle ad that goes across my page, or does it have some other meaning?

    — can i really add this and use it without doing any code?

Within AdServe, “banner” means any graphic file associated with an ad. since you can create different ad zones, you might find it helpful to group your ads based on their image sizes – wide narrow ads go into zone 1,125px square ads go in zone 2 etc. Makes the final display much more predictable and therefore easier to manage.

In terms of coding, all you need to be able to add to a post or page’s content is a shortcode along the lines of [adserver_sone 3] or similar (it’s been a while since I used it)

    ok. thanks for the definition.

coding, even a short code is a prob, as i haven’t done it yet, and haven’t even figured out where to PLACE any needed code. got a tip on that for me? so perhaps i can get pointed in the right direction, and then experiment? (i’m using bluehost for my web host, and they seem to handle a lot of stuff for me automatically, so i’ve gotten this far being so naive

and do you suppose the answers in particular about adserve are there somewhere when i do go ahead and plug it in? (this will be my first plug in)

    (@sharyndecker)

i’ll just go ahead and also ask you this, before i have to step out: would you happen to have another plugin to recommend that also fits my needs (hopes, desires) for ads?

Sorry – that’s the only one I ever used myself.

    (@sharyndecker)

thank you. and can you get me pointed in the right direction as to WHERE to place any needed code?

I’ve used this plugin with much success
