I do have a very similar problem as user paytonstray: After having performed the latest NGG update this morning (which was done in relation with the well known present php problems), there is now a message of my Dashboard which says: “Please install & activate NextGEN Gallery to allow NextGEN Pro to work.”. However, the NextGEN Gallery shows as being activated in the plugin list of the Dashboard. When I deactivate the plugin there is no error message and it correctly shows the plugin as deactivated. However when trying to reactivate the plugin I also (like user paytonstray) get the message that I am not allowed to access this page (whatever is meant by that). When navigating back to the plugin page it does however show as being activated again, but the message on top op the Dashboard is still there and in the dashboard the “Gallery” button has disappaered completely so as I would not have the plugin at all meaning that I am unable to access any of the Gallery submenus, features, settings etc.
Question: Was this done on purpose in the last NGG update for users who still use PHP 7.1.12 ? For your info, I have not been upgraded to PHP 2.2. yet.
FYI: When checking with FTP the plugin is well on it’s correct place…..

@rederstreet – This may well have to do with the latest update to disable most of the NextGEN Gallery functionality when the site is using one of the problematic versions of PHP.

Please send us a Bug Report (https://imagely.com/report-bug/ … please reference this topic) so we can get a better look under the page at your site.

Please include as many details as you can about your site and the issue at hand so we can move on this as fast as possible.

    Thanks!

Dear Cais, thank you for answering. At this moment I am refraining from issuing a bug report i.o. not to draw resources to something of which I believe it is related to the well known PHP problem. Furthermore, and I am really sorrry for not having mentionned this earlier, at the very top of my Dashboard there the following message is displayed: “We’ve detected you are running PHP versions 7.1.12 or 7.0.26. These versions of PHP have a bug that breaks NextGEN Gallery and causes server crashes in certain conditions. To protect your site, NextGEN Gallery will not load. We recommend asking your host to roll back to an earlier version of PHP. For details on the PHP bug, see: bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=75573”. The fact that it says “To protect your site, NextGEN Gallery will not load” somehow explains the behavior described in my original post since (unfortunately) I am still with PHP 7.1.12. You say that most of the NextGEN functionality is disabled when using one of the problematic PHP versions, but the message in the Dashboard clearly says that NextGEN will not load at all.
Therefore, should the described problem persist after I have been upgraded to 7.2 (not 2.2 as stated above by error), or rolled back to an earlier version, I will then have to issue a bug report. For the time being, you may close this one. Thank you very much indeed!

@rederstreet – Thanks for the update. NextGEN Gallery’s majority functionality will not work with these problematic PHP versions although enough of the plugin is left working to produce that message (and not much more).

Please let us know if the problems persist.

I now have been rolled back to PHP 5.6.6.by my Webhoster and everything is fine except that I am unable to upload any new photos into my galleries. I will open a new post for that problem.
